Spring 2018.
I embarked on an intensive Hypnotherapy Course.
For two full weeks, I immersed myself in learning about hypnosis—what it is, how to induce a state of trance, how to conduct a session, and most importantly, how to achieve real results using hypnosis, whether for myself or a client.
These two weeks were an intense experience, and they changed my life in ways I never imagined. It was as if my world had been turned upside down—but in the best possible way. After the course, I gained the ability to introspect objectively, and what I discovered was both profound and liberating: many of the actions I had taken in life weren’t actually driven by me, but by the unconscious “programs” I had installed over the years. These programs had been running almost on autopilot.
Why does this happen?
Because 90% of our lives are governed by our subconscious mind. The subconscious is like a sponge, absorbing everything that comes its way—good or bad—without discrimination. It takes in information and forms beliefs, habits, and patterns that run in the background. Your conscious mind is the one that can judge, analyze, and make decisions, but the subconscious holds the reins for most of your automatic behaviors, responses, and emotions.
Everything from your life processes (like breathing and digestion) to your learned behaviors (like cycling or driving) is stored in the subconscious. This is also where your core beliefs, habits, and fears reside—many of which were learned in early childhood through repetition. These deeply ingrained patterns can make it difficult to change habits or ways of thinking later in life.
The conscious mind acts as a filter, standing between you and your subconscious. In order to access the subconscious—to pour in new information or retrieve old memories—you must lower the alertness of the conscious mind. That’s where hypnosis comes in.
When we are young, our conscious mind isn’t fully developed, so we don’t have the ability to filter or discriminate the information we take in. This is actually a survival mechanism: children need to learn quickly from their parents and environment to thrive. However, this lack of filtering also means that children absorb everything—both the essential skills for life and the fears, habits, and biases of their caregivers. Many of these ideas remain with us for life, even if they’re not helpful.
As these influences are stored deep in our subconscious, they become harder to access and change—making it difficult to break bad habits or shift unhelpful thinking patterns. Even as adults, without realizing it, our subconscious is continually shaped by external sources—especially the media, which can subtly act as a form of mass hypnosis, influencing our beliefs and behaviours.
Accessing the subconscious mind as an adult typically requires significant effort, such as through constant repetition. However, hypnosis offers a more efficient way to ‘hack’ into the subconscious and make lasting changes with less effort.
After my father passed away, I was gripped by an overwhelming fear of death. It lingered in the background, but when I became a parent, it escalated into something that gnawed at me constantly. It wasn’t just the idea of death itself—it was the fear of the unknown, the idea of leaving everything behind. Even though I could still manage day-to-day, it felt like I was carrying a weight I couldn’t shake.
But then something shifted when I took the hypnosis course. What started as an exercise soon became a profound, life-changing experience. We were practicing regression hypnosis, a technique designed to take you back—not just to moments in this life but sometimes to what might have been past lives. The idea was to confront and release the emotional baggage we’ve been carrying—fear, resentment, dissatisfaction. It was a deep dive into the subconscious, beyond anything I had ever imagined.
The process involved visiting key moments: a happy day from childhood, the moment you took your first steps, even the time spent in the womb. While my classmates were taken back to past lives, reliving intense and emotional experiences, my journey took an entirely different turn. Instead of landing in a past life, I found myself in a place between lives.
It was surreal. I was floating in what felt like an infinite expanse of space. Dark, but also full of vibrant, swirling colors—like the universe had come alive before my eyes. Galaxies stretched endlessly around me, and I felt weightless. Not just physically—I had no body at all. I was everywhere and nowhere. There was no hunger, no cold, no warmth, no need for anything. It was the most profound state of peace I had ever known. I felt complete, as if nothing in the universe could disturb me.
And this is what struck me most—I was in the very place where most of us imagine death resides. But instead of fear or despair, I was bathed in pure bliss. If this is what death feels like, then what was I so afraid of? It was a revelation.
Reality or imagination? Who knows? Scientists themselves still grapple with what is real and what is merely perceived. But what I experienced in that space felt more real to me than the world I returned to. And it transformed me.
That moment changed everything. Death no longer seemed like an end—it was simply another state of being, one I could welcome without fear. From that point forward, my fear of death dissolved completely.
Yet, paradoxically, it reignited my passion for life. I realized I still had so much to do, so much to experience. My journey wasn’t over. I was determined not only to feel complete in death but to strive for that same sense of wholeness and peace while alive.
As Eckhart Tolle said:
“Death is a stripping away of all that is not you. The secret of life is to ‘die’ before you die and find that there is no death.”
Reflecting on this experience, I realized that hypnosis acted as a key, unlocking the door to my subconscious—a place where my deepest fears had been quietly controlling my mind. It empowered me to access and release those fears, allowing me to live with greater ease and clarity.
Moreover, this exploration ignited a passion within me to delve deeper into the study of hypnosis. It equipped me with invaluable tools not only to help myself but also to effectively assist others on their journeys of healing and transformation. Through hypnosis, we can tap into our subconscious minds, unearthing and releasing the limiting patterns that hold us back. This journey isn’t just about personal growth; it’s about facilitating change in others, helping them confront their fears and heal emotional wounds.
I hope my story inspires you to explore the incredible potential of your own subconscious mind and consider the power of hypnosis for personal transformation. Whether you’re struggling with fears, limiting beliefs, or simply seeking a deeper understanding of yourself, hypnosis offers a profound pathway to healing and growth—for you and for those you wish to support.
